U.S. government says the chemical BPA is too dangerous for our babies

eFitnessNow: "Although many would say this is long over due, on Friday U.S. lawmakers announced new legislation that will ban the chemical bisphenol A (BPA) in all food and beverage containers.

The bill, given brought forth by Rep. Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) and Sens. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) and Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.), will significantly increase efforts to limit the chemical from products for young children.

This new bill would authorize the US Food and Drug Administration to give a one-year waiver to manufacturers who can demonstrate that their product cannot be made without bisphenol A.

This bill comes only a day after Sunoco, the gas and chemical company, said that they will no longer sell bisphenol A, to companies for use in food and water containers for children younger than 3. Sunoco stated that there isn’t enough evidence to say this chemical does not harm children.

Now, six other manufacturers have listen to the consumer demand by removing the potentially harmful chemical Bisphenol A from their baby bottles.

Parents around the world are hoping their lawmakers will take action against this chemical as well. For example, bottles containing BPA is still being sold in the UK, a decision which has angered campaigners."
