BUND Germany tests BPA and calls for ban

Meanwhile, German environmental NGO BUND reports that it has found the plastics intermediate bisphenol A in the can linings of 11 soft drink products it tested. The drinks themselves, including Red Bull, Sprite and Nescafe, did not contain the substance.

BUND called on the European Food Safety Authority to institute tough new restrictions on the use of bisphenol A-containing plastics in products that come into contact with food or skin. The substance has been linked to infertility, breast cancer and miscarriage.
